You are cordially invited to attend a weekend of writing workshops, craft sessions, and open mic at the Champlain College Young Writers' Conference, May 24-26, 2019. Now in our nineteenth year, our doors are open to high school students who wish to share their passion for story, drama, and song with their writerly brothers and sisters—and with celebrated New England authors. We offer three days of readings, improv, Moth storytelling, poetry slams, literary jazz/blues fusion, and extended friendship on the hillside campus of Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont.
For further instructions, and to be guided through the application process, please use the Apply button, below.
Fiction, Creative Non-Fiction, and Dramatic Writing applicants must submit a writing sample of no more than three pages. Poets/songwriters may submit a one-page sample, and songwriters are welcome to upload a recording of their work. Filmmakers must submit a writing sample of no more than three pages, in any genre, that will later be translated into a short film.
Please include your name on your submissions. Sending an excerpt of a larger piece is fine. If you would like to apply for a genre category that you have not yet explored (for example, dramatic writing or songwriting) feel free to submit a similar piece (prose or poetry) when applying for those categories.
The acceptance process is competitive; we look for quality writing and original voice. Don't be afraid to take risks.
Once accepted, you will have an opportunity to review your work with your workshop peers.
